Pál György (1906, Budapest -1986, Budapest)



Grafikus. 1925-31 között a budapesti Iparművészeti Iskola grafika szakán végzett. Mestere Helbing Ferenc volt. A 30-as években fametszeteket, vallásos témájú képeket festett. Elsősorban grafikával és mezőgazdasági plakátok készítésével foglalkozott. Számos kollektív kiállításon szerepelt a Műcsarnokban (1950, 1953, 1955, 1960, 1986), a Szent Korona Galériában (1995). Művei a Magyar Nemzeti Galériában és az Országos Széchényi Könyvtárban találhatók.



Egy méltatlanul elfeledett festő/grafikus páratlan szépségű akvarellje. Igazi mestermű! Készült az 1930-as években.

Pál, György 1906 - 1986



György Pál was a poster designer. His first poster appeared in 1927. From that time on, he designed numerous commercial posters, for example for Tungsram, manufacturer of light bulbs and electronics, for Gschwindt can and Flora soap.



After 1945 he became a frequently commissioned poster artist, and he designed several propaganda posters during the 1950’s. His works advertised the new holidays of the new regime (such as the celebration of liberation and the day of the new constitution), the support of world peace and the importance of insurance. He also designed posters for the election campaigns of the ruling communist party, Népfront (People’s Front), which was the only political party at the time.



In the 1950’s his designs followed the strict socialist realist manner. He used the established visual elements: smiling workers, cheering crowds and symbols of the new regime: red star and flag, the new coat of arms of Hungary, sickle and hammer, etc. The target audience of his posters was the workers and the peasantry: they depict everyday people in simple settings, with shrill colors. Agriculture and sport belonged to his favorite topics. Some of his designs worked rather as educational boards, aiming to demonstrate proper ways of production, work safety, in non-poster-like compositions. Other works by Pál possess much more artistic value.
